PROCESS FOR NEWSPAPER SUBMISSIONS
Remuneration:
$5.00 per article / newspaper. Currently TWT has the contract for five papers. If your article is burned onto a CD that goes to all five papers, you will be paid $25.00 for your story.
Newspaper Submission requirements:
- The call for queries will be sent out to our current roster of writers twice a year.
- Submit a query by matching it with a theme and destination on the line-up
- A maximum of two pitches will be accepted from each writer
- Submit completed articles and images prior to deadline.
- Deadline for January - June CD is November 15
- Deadline for July - December CD is May 15
- Original content is preferred, although previously published articles are acceptable, provided they haven't been published in any of our newspapers
- We will let you know if your pitch has been accepted, but this does not act as a letter of assignment.
- Travel features should be written from a personal perspective and evoke a strong sense of place. They should be based on trips taken within the previous year.
Text:
- Submissions will not be considered, unless they comply with these following guidelines
- Ensure that the title of your article is in the subject line of your email
- Articles must be between 700 - 750 words. Longer submissions will not be considered. An additional 100 words is acceptable for the sidebar.
- Use Times New Roman size 12 type and font throughout and single space the body of the article. No fancy fonts please, and no double spacing.
- Format throughout as "left-justified," and without indenting paragraphs.
- No headers, footers or numbered items please.
- Do not use hyperlinks in body of article - all links and contact info should be at the bottom.
- Check your spelling, punctuation and grammar before submitting your article.
- Paste the text directly into the e-mail message and also attach your article as an "MS Word" document.
- We prefer gripping stories told in the first person, and are not interested in brochure-style articles, press releases or promotional pieces.
Photos:
- Do not send photos embedded in your MS Word Document.
- Send as 'jpeg' attachments 300 dpi, maximum size: 8" x 6". Please do not send 'tiffs' or 'bmps'.
- Submit up to five (5) photos with your article.
- Send photos in a separate email, with your article title in the subject line
- Provide photo credit(s) at the bottom of your article, ensuring you have permission to use the photographs if it is not your own. It's your responsibility to ensure there are no copyright infringements.
- A numbered 'key' to the photos, with captions should be appended at the end of your article (after the sidebar text).
- We respond to all submissions within 4 weeks.
PROCESS FOR ONLINE SUBMISSIONS
Remuneration:
At this time, TWT is not able to pay for articles or photographs that will be published on the web site. We are, however, happy to include your bio and a reciprocal link to your personal website.
Online Submission requirements:
- Submit completed articles only. No queries please.

- Indicate in your article where each photo should be placed. Example: If you'd like #1 lake photo at the beginning of the first paragraph, on that place in your article, write #1 photo here
- Provide photo credit(s) at the bottom of your article, ensuring you have permission to use the photographs if it is not your own. It's your responsibility to ensure there are no copyright infringements.
- Suggest which areas of the TWT web site you would like your article to appear. Example: Article about skiing at sun Peaks could be placed in - destinations/Canada/BC as well as outdoor adventure, sports
- We respond to all submissions within 4 weeks.
Once your article is published on TWT, we ask that you spread the word.

Post It On Facebook / Myspace
This is a great place to share a link to your article and get your friends reading it.
Blog About It
Write a new post on your blog that explains the "behind the scenes" story of why you wrote the article. You could talk about how you first had the idea, planning the trip, the aim you are trying to achieve with your piece, a side-story that didn't make the cut, etc.
Email It To Your Friends / Family
Ask your friends and family for their thoughts on your article by sending them the link
Send It To Other Bloggers
Do some research online and find other great blogs that may be interested in sharing your article with their readers.
Social-media sites offer the chance to gain massive readership to your article. Just make sure you have a lot of friends in your network, and you mark your piece with the right tags. Check out Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, and Delicious.
